University Heights

University Heights is an historic inner ring suburb in the heart of the east side of Greater Cleveland. We are located ten minutes east of University Circle, the scientific, medical, and cultural center of Northeastern Ohio. We are ten minutes west of the I-271 corridor, lined with corporate headquarters, office parks, retail, restaurants, and other attractions. We are twenty minutes from the jobs, sports, and entertainment of Downtown Cleveland.

Our city’s namesake, John Carroll University, is one of twenty-eight Jesuit universities in the United States. JCU is a leader in undergraduate and graduate education, our city’s largest employer, and an asset to the region.

Every home in our city has a similar look, yet each is unique. Beginning in the west, our homes are primarily pre-war colonials and neo-colonials featuring brick and sandstone, extending to the east with several streets of post-war midcentury modern homes. Our manageable yards lend themselves to creative gardening. As one of the three longest running Tree City USA cities in Cuyahoga County, our tree lined streets and urban canopy have been recognized as leading the region for the past forty years. We offer the best attributes of urban living in a suburban setting. Our streets are quiet, our neighborhoods are walkable and bikeable, our neighbors are friendly.

City amenities include an outdoor pool, tennis courts, a public park with modern playgrounds and a multipurpose perimeter path. We hold summer events including the oldest and largest Memorial Day parade on the east side of Cleveland, a summer concert series, yoga in the park, among others. We share an independent library system with the city of Cleveland Heights, with a fully renovated and reimagined modern library in our city.

We share a public school district with Cleveland Heights, with the board office and two public elementary schools situated within or along our city borders. Our “new” high school retains the best features of early twentieth century classical architecture while containing the contemporary features of the newest leading public schools, certain to nurture our budding artists, scientists, and athletes. Our private schools offer the best in private and parochial education. Leaders in all fields are graduates of our public and private schools.
