Welcome To Hiram Township

Hiram Township was established in 1817 in the Northwest corner of Portage County, Ohio as a 25 square mile tract of land. It is bordered by the townships of Troy, Nelson, Mantua, Freedom and the village of Garrettsville. Over the years some of the original 25 square miles was used for the establishment of Garrettsville Village and 1 square mile for Hiram Village which sits directly in the middle of the township. Hiram Township is served by the Crestwood and Garfield school systems, 3 different telephone exchanges and the Post Offices of Hiram, Garrettsville and Mantua.

The Village of Hiram, Ohio is a charming community of 1,200 residents located in northern Portage County, an area known as the Western Reserve. The Village is located at the intersection of State Routes 700/305 and 82, 32 miles southeast of Cleveland, Ohio.

The Village is the home of Hiram College, a nationally respected liberal arts college of 1300 men and women.

The Village of Hiram, Ohio is a charming community of 1,200 residents located in northern Portage County, an area known as the Western Reserve. The Village is located at the intersection of State Routes 700/305 and 82, 35 miles (55 km.) southeast of Cleveland.

The Village is the home of Hiram College, a nationally respected liberal arts college of 1200 men and women.

James A Garfield

Before serving as a decorated general in the Union Army and later as 12th President of the United States, James A. Garfield was one of the first presidents of Hiram College. Garfield was president of Hiram (then named the Western Reserve Eclectic Institute) from 1857 to 1861.
